I have recently decided to get my rear in gear and shed those extra baby pounds that I've been carrying around for longer than I want to admit. After the birth of my first child I joined a gym and worked out daily. I never felt better in my life. Then after about a year I fell down my stairs and injured my knee. I was unable to go to the gym for a couple months and by the time I was able to I felt too out of shape and kept putting it off. Well I've been putting it off for 5 years now!

Finally, 2 more babies and about 75 pounds later, I went out and bought a Nordictrack Elliptical and some weights. I did 20 minutes on the elliptical this morning and my legs felt like jelly, I am sooo out if shape it's really sad! At this point I'm just going to focus on getting back in shape and trying to make wiser food choices, I don't want to focus too much on how much weight I'm losing because I get discouraged very easily if I don't see big drops in my weight as quickly as I'd like. So I threw out my bathroom scale! I figure the weight will come off in time as long as I'm consistent in my exercise routine and cut out the junk food.

So, anyone else trying to get in shape? I would love to have someone to exchange tips with and encourage each other.

I posted awhile ago about trying to lose weight. I just wanted to say I have lost 10 lbs since then!! I would really love if we could keep a thread of motivation and help for each other. \:\)

Count me in too!!

About 5 years ago, I made the same decision as I'm making now and managed to lose about 40 lbs at roughly 2lbs per week. I just cut out snacking, junk food and things that I knew were loaded with fat/calories. I managed to keep the weight off for about a year and a half, and then my poor eating habits came back with a vengeance! I gained the previously lost 40 plus another 15!!! I'm a walking time bomb for heart disease, stroke, diabetes and many other obesity related illnesses.

It's definitely time to yank my head out of the sand and face reality!!!

This is great! We can keep each other motivated and report on our progress here. I think it's so much easier to stay on track when there are people cheering you on.

Isabel, I have a family history of all of the illnesses you mentioned and that is one of my biggest motivating factors right now. I'm not getting any younger and if I don't start taking better care of my health I'm in for big problems down the road. I want to be healthy and be here for my family for a long time to come.

Congrats on those 10 lbs! I think the first few are the hardest to lose sometimes!
