Hi everybody. I have been wrecking my brain researching information on birth control... so tonight I decided to come to where I always get the most helpful information. So my situation is I have 2 children a boy and a girl ages 7 and 2, I also have a step-daughter age 7 that lives with my husband and I. I am currently on Quasense which is a generic form of Seasonale birth control pill. I have taken this for almost 2 years and while being on it I have lost my libido, stay nuaseated, I am constantly tired/ sleepy, I have vaginal dryness, and I am always moody. I have tried every type of Birth Control and hormones and I just can't get along I even swell and break out in hives.
My husband and I have come to the agreement that we were not having any more children... but in my heart I am just not sure. I had information sent to me from my doctors office about Essure which is the no cut alternative to tubal ligation (getting your tubes tied). I read over the information and felt I'm not ready for this. My only other option is the Paragard IUD but I'm leary of becoming pregnant with this and also the longer, heavier, more painful periods. But I CAN NO LONGER DO HORMONES!!!
If any of you ladies have experience with either Paragard IUD or the Essure coils please give me some information on how either is working for you and what might be the best way to go. How is your sex life after either of these procedures. What type of side effects have you had if any. And with Paragard how are your periods??? Also if any of you have any other suggestions on non-hormonal birth control please let me know. I am so in a hurry to come off these hormones that have wrecked my life for years. Any input is welcome. I hope this post is not TMI for you all, Sorry but I need honest opinions from women. Oh and if there are any men reading this Do you feel differently about your wife after she gets her tubes tied? This is also something that worries me.

Thanks,
Trina

Well, all I can say is when my Mom got her tubes tied she said her periods are heavier, the pain is greater, and you get more moody and get tired a lot more easily. I noticed that my co-workers who have had tubal ligation say the same. @_@

I know my Mom had it done the traditional way but I'm not too sure about my co-workers.

Sorry that I have had no first hand experience, but I thought about getting tubal ligation later on in life until I heard these rather bizarre and horrendous side effects both my mom and my co-workers have experienced.

He could be snipped - much less invasive procedure than tubes being tied. ;\) For what it's worth, a friend of mine got pregnant after having her tubes tied. Really!! And my sister got pregnant twice on the pill.

I can't help much otherwise - I never used protection with my ex (for eight years) and never could get pregnant, then had a crazy miracle after giving up and now have a riotous 17-month-old with my fabulous guy...we use condoms. Anyhoo, I just had to jump in 'coz it kinda chaps my hide that the woman's the one who has to take hormones and get all messed up or have surgery when the guy's just as responsible...yanno? (on a TOTALLY unrelated note but just about the male ego...I was talking with a young colleague recently about fertility struggles and I asked if her husband had had a sperm count/motility test done. She pulled a face and said "Oh, he would think I was trying to hurt him if I asked him to do that." AHHHHH!!!!)

Ahem...sorry for the tangent!

+1! A lot easier on his body than you having your tubes tied, etc.

With reguard to Paraguard- YUCK!!!! It was one of the worst experiences of my life! I bled, passed clots and was in pain for 3 months straight. I too have been on several forms of birth control and I am currently on NuvaRing. I LOVE IT!! I am very sensitive to hormones and the Nuvaring has such a small amount it doesn't bother me at all. It is so nice not to have to worry about taking a pill everyday as well. It was probably all in my head, but the strings that hang off of the IUD really bothered me. I was always so paranoid that one of them would get hit, become loose and there goes my birth control. You should also post something like this on the WebMD boards- the ladies there are very knowledgeable and might have some other suggestions for you.

Ooo I agree with the other posters. DH can get snipped. Very quick and painless procedure with it being wayyyy less invasive than getting your tubes tied and possible infections that may occur due to such a procedure.

And if he worries if he won't be able to umm ejaculate after (I know silly but you'd be surprised how many guys think this) being snipped, he will it just blocks the ducts that carry the sperm!

+2! I can't do hormonal BC either...I feel worse than if I were preggers. \:\( Having him snipped is the easiest way....and he is up and running right away. (My BIL went golfing the same day. ;\) )

We did discuss hubby getting snipped and he agreed that he would be the one to have it done... but he is just procrastinating(I guess that is how you spell it) too much for me. Meanwhile I am suffering on the hormones.
