So for 3 weeks now I have had the worst heartburn and pains in my chest (specifically around my right shoulder, behind the sternum, and under my ribcage on my left side.) I also throw up if I eat fast food or a really heavy fattening meal and I have diarrhea pretty much every day. I went to a specialist yesterday and he was so busy flirting with me that he didn't listen to any of my symptoms and said "we'll just put you on some muscle relaxers and see if that helps" WTF???!! I left crying and called my regular doc to tell him what had happened. I went to the ER last weekend and they gave an IV because I was dehydrated, did some basic blood work and gave me a Finagrin (SP?) to help with nausea and sent me on my way. I am so frustrated because my regular doc can’t help me, the specialist blew me off (he said I have a food allergy, most likely) and didn’t make a follow-up appointment for me and I can’t find another doctor to see, the closest appointment I could get is a month away and my Endocrine doctor is on vacation (he’s the only one that really listens to me). I had chronic Pancreatitis in 1984/1985 so this current situation is really bothering me. Any suggestions??

Have you had your gallbladder checked? I have a friend the same thing happened to her with fast food and fatty meals and such and she had to eventually have her gallbladder removed. Just a thought.

Shame on that specialist! Whatever happened to the Hippocratic Oath???

So sorry to hear. The pain in your shoulder, sternum, and ribcage could very well be muscular or a shift in your vertebrae. I get sharp pains in my sternum and back - my physical therapist helped with that.

But, your stomach problems definitely sound more serious. That's terrible the specialist treated you so poorly. Is there any way you can find a different gastroenterologist (sp?). If it is a food allergy, maybe make an appointment with an allergist?

Oh, and did you get the results from the bloodwork ar the ER?

Also, have you been super stressed? Ulcer maybe?

Also, have you considered that it might be a parasite? This is gonna sound gross... but my friend had a tape worm, and was pretty sick because of it, but she didn't find out until much later (it was almost two feet long). The doc said it was probably in her intestines for over a year, and she didn't get sick until it got really big, and she expelled it naturally... I know, gross.

Sorry I'm not much help... just throwing ideas out there.

OMG sounds like your gallbladder to me...am having mine taken out probably next week...after numerous tests, etc....and I TOLD them I KNEW I had gallstones from 3 years ago. Classic symptoms you're having, actually.

I have almost no stress- home life is great, I work am an office manager at a church and love it. I seriously doubt it's allergies, I went through testing a few years ago for that.
I took out the phone book this morning and called every GI in Chattanooga with no luck. I don't know what to do short of going back to the ER.

I would also say its your gallbladder.. My mother just had her removed and had similar symptoms to yours. She had an attack many years back and cut greasy foods out of her diet completely. This did stop the symptom's and she was able to avoid surgery until last year. She went to a dinner with some friends and ate a little deep fried... was in the hospital that night. PLEASE get it check asap... and tell them you are concerned about that specifically.

Sadly, I have found that sometimes you have to *lie* a little bit to get the doctors to listen to you. Instead of saying you have pain, you have to say you were in so much pain you couldn't move. I would go back to the ER and play up everything. I hope you feel better soon!

Your symptoms sound just like mine when I had ulcers, does it feel as though the pain wraps around your side to your midback? If so most likely ulcers I would have your doc call you in some protonix or nexium (I recommend the protonix), take it twice a day and see if it helps. I had a nissen fundoplication Sep 2007 due to my list of gastic problems so I know the pain you must be in. It so funny how people assume heartburn is just like a banged up knee or something, but for those who suffer it effects every aspect of your life!
