Has anyone ever ordered prescription glasses online? If you have, how did it turn out? I'm thinking of ordering from these guys with these exact frames with high index aspheric lens and anti-glare coating.  Theyedoctor

I might order frames but not whole glasses, unless you can supply the data for where the optical center of the lens should be. It won't be part of your eyeglass Rx b.c it varies with the frames. When you go to a local optician, they measure that so they know whether to make it dead center of the lenses or shift it in / out, or up / down. Where it goes depends on how the frames sit on your face. Also, if you have bifocals, they need to determine where to place the transition(s).

That's 51mm across, 28.6mm high (size of the lens, at least I think the 28.6 must be lens height. I'm sure about the 51mm is width.)
The sidepieces are 135mm long.
The gap across th nose is 18mm, although w/ adjustable nosepads they can make the frames fit. But if that gap is too wide, it might look unflattering anbd/or push the lenses outward so your optican center will be someplace other than the geometric center of lens.
Compare those to a pair of glasses that fits well so you'll know if the frame is over or under sized for you or the wearer.

I just tried this. The results were less than great. The frames were fine though. I got a pair of reading glasses that work o.k. A pair of sunglasses that feel a bit off but are usable for the amount I would use them (twice a year or so), and a pair of regular glasses that they messed up on totally. I didn't bother with the return due to them only costing $25.00. The reading ones and the sunglasses are wearable. I have a pretty bad astigmatism and I think they messed up that part of things. My script didn't really change so I'm just keeping my old glasses. Personally I won't do it again, but I am VERY picky about my glasses and need perfect correction- not almost there- LOL.

I got a fantastic deal on my eyeglasses. I love them, I have worn them every single day for the past 4 months, and I am definately ordering more. Total price, in the end, frames, no-line bifocal lenses and three pairs of clip on sun-shades (which are fantastic) came to a low, low total of $55; they shipped fast and are perfect! Maybe it varies with where you get them, but I know that to buy my glasses here would have cost $350 to $400 at my optometrist! I could get 7 complete pairs instead! In fact, I will likely be ordering some prescription sunglasses, as well.
At this price, I can afford an eyeglass wardrobe.

May I recommend checking out Costco? I got my regular glasses and prescription glasses there. Both are great and awesome prices. The only bad part is that you have to wait about 10 days before getting them. I got these with polycarbonate lens and anti-glare coating for about $125 total. And, the sunglasses in the same frame (dif color) were only about $100. Anyway, good luck!

I could not even think about ordering my glasses online. My eye Doc can't even get 'em right the first go round. My prescription is horribly bad and also have astigmatism, but only buy single vision (refuse to do the bifocal thing, would rather look OVER the glasses to read-opposite than most women over 40, can see close up). Tried no line bifocals a few years ago and wanted to smack people, they bothered me so bad. Everything has to be more than perfect on mine, or I can't see! From the base curve of the lens to the center point. I have to buy the high index rather than the polycarbonate lenses because of distortion. I TRIED to buy new glasses a couple of months ago, sent them back the first time, the DOC sent them back 3 more times after he checked them (before having me come in and try them) and the 4th time, they still weren't right...so gave up and got a refund and am still wearing my old ones...

+1 Newbie - I am blind as a bat and my prescription is really expensive. Plus I am very picky about trying my frames on locally first. I did almost order frames online once (only the frames - and after I tried them on locally). I found out that my base Optometrist was able to get them cheaper than even the online price. She just had to order them in. My prescription is really tricky though, so I could never order it online and risk that it doesn't come out just right.

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciated your responses!
I think I'm going to go ahead and just order the frames, and have Pearle Vision cut the aspheric lens. I have tried on at least 60-100 frames from every where you can imagine. I love those Vera Bradley frames that I posted. They are so light and very high quality, but they would be $200 more including lens at my doctor's office. If Pearle Vision messes up my prescription, they will have to fix it if I go through them. I'm not sure how easy that would be online if something goes wrong.
I know my pupilary distance and they do ask for it, but I don't think I'll take a chance online just like many of you said you wouldn't. Plus I have pretty bad astigmatism! Thanks so much, ladies!

I just ordered from zennioptical.com. I know they have mixed reviews, but I got 2 pairs for me and 2 pairs for DH for less than $45. Each pair was only $9 with $6 shipping. I figured it was a crap shoot, but we are both contact wearers and hardly ever wear glasses, so I figured it was worth a shot compared to spending 10x at Costco for glasses.
Seems like people either loved them or hated zenni- I  my $9 glasses! Our Rxs are pretty simple though. Mine is -4 in both eyes with a slight astigmatism and DH is -2.5. I think if I had a complex Rx and solely wore glasses I would have worried more. I even measured my own PD, and I have no headaches at all, perfect vision! In fact, because of my astigmatism (Dr. said borderline to correct) I think my vision is clearer with the glasses.
We're planning to order more pairs this month- I got metal frames, but I'm more of a plastic frame girl. I also didn't spend extra on the anti-reflective coating, which I will this next time. If they turn out as good as the first order I'll def. start wearing the plastics during the day! I'm gonna get the brown and purple frames below that someone else ordered from zenni Cool glasses
