I thought this might be the best place to ask this question. I have an antique mother of pearl cameo pendant that my grandmother gave to me. It has silver around the edge that has tarnished and now looks black. I'm trying to decide whether I want to clean it, and if so, how to go about doing it without damaging the cameo. I'll post some pics when I get home this evening. The thing that is pushing me toward cleaning it is the weird metallic smell that sticks to my fingers when I touch it. But I'm not even sure if this will be remedied by cleaning. Any thoughts? Thanks!

got a picture? how is it set?

i'd use the gemcare paste. DH found a sterling silver ring he made 24 years ago in wood shop, and it was completely tarnished. i used the gemcare paste and now it looks literally brand new!

and i know gemcare is ok for pearls. just don't soak in the solution if the cameo is glued into its setting. it'll dissolve the glue... i found out the hard way ;1

I don't know how it's set, to be honest, but I think I would just assume glue to be on the safe side. But I might soak the chain in the solution, because it's also kind of stanky. I have to go work out after work, but I'm going to have a little photo shoot tonight when I get home. I also have to take some pics of the new OEC solitaire I got from Ladywolfe. Woo-woo!

It goes everywhere with me in my purse, LOL. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it. I got a beautiful setting from Erica, but I procrastinated because of money, and then I found the solitaire. The ring I just bought was the one that inspired me to buy the loose OEC, because I was too slow months ago. It's not sized yet, but I'm wearing it anyway on my ring finger, just above the knuckle, so I can stare at it. I are gem nerd.

I think I'm going to put the 8mm diamond-cut pink sapphire from BTD in the setting I got from Erica, so I can wear it on my other hand. I'm planning to wear the OEC as a RHR, since I don't want millions of questions about being engaged (I'm not).

I've been considering that, because I'm starting to get into wearing necklaces. I don't know what kind of setting for it, though. I'm a total newbie at necklaces. Oh, hey, Bling.. you're good at finding cool stuff.. *cough* *nudge* \:D
