Ok, my second purchase for today is this LOVELY Spess Garnet from Dan Stair. It is not really the shape I was looking for, I originally wanted a square stone, but it kept calling to me....
I'm waited on a Hydrothermal Pad Sapphire from Michael E and then I am done, done DONE!!! And then to decide settings....
I think my new goal is to get a gem from each person on "The List" that Caramish put together on the other thread.

Ok, so I got this today and the cut is PERFECTION!
That being said, it is showing a LOT more brownish tones than I want.
Am I barking up the wrong tree? Do all garnets show brown? I want a pure orange. I did like this reddish orange, but it doesn't look reddish orange in person, it looks like a rootbeer. Sorta.
Help. What kind of gem am I looking for?! This one's going back.
You might try the Mexican Fire Opals. Pure orange in many lovely shades!
I helped my brother buy my SIL a gorgeous stone a few months ago and had it set into a pendant with a diamond for her "push present". First child is opal, second child is diamond, and SIL's favorite color is orange. It was perfect!! I wish I took pics...
