Is this opal real?
Can someone look at this item and give an opinion on whether this opal is real? Something looks a little strange to me about it. Otherwise i love the ring....

It's beautiful! However, it is NOT your conventional opal. I know because my mom has one. It's blue with lots of colors. It is indeed an opal BUT I forget the name of it. It isn't a regular opal though. My mom's is marquise shaped, set in a YG filigree setting and the opal has a black border. I LOVE that ring!

Whenever i've looked at images of real opals, the colours shift according to the light. These colours seem to be too "there" at all angles if anyone gets what I mean. The colours are not shifting like I think they should from different angles. Also, there is no gloss on the polish of the stone, it's really flat. And another thing that bugs me is how the colours almost seem painted on, almost all look like little dabs of a brush....you know, I've talked myself out of bidding on this even if I love the setting
I'll try and post another link to another opal i'm pretty sure is real so that you can compare.
Genuine Opal?

YES! the 2nd one you can see it's glossy (unless it's a doctored pic) and the first one is so flat.
