Big SIGH here to start. \:\(

Will the post office let me pick up a pkg without the peach colored slip, the one that says they attempted delivery? I'll definitely have my drivers lic with me.

I've been waiting all day for Spooky's pkg to arrive (OMC ring). I kept checking the tracking up until about 5pm today and all it said was that it was delivered to our main post office at 4:17am. Good so far, right? Well, I kept checking the mailbox all day and nothing. Not even junk mail so I figure my carrier is just late today.

We went out to dinner at 7pm EST and my mailbox was still empty, no mail, no junk mail, bills, etc. Then I get home just now to check the tracking and they're saying they attempted delivery at 1:57pm? I was home!!! In fact, I got home from errands at 1p and I didn't leave my house until 3:15p to go of all places, to the post office to mail another package!! While there, I said that our carrier hadn't yet delivered (and she's usually here by 1p) and could there be anything for me to pick up? The clerk said "no, all mail is already out for the day" . I took his word for it. Then at 4:15p had my son check the mailbox as he got off the bus.

Now, I just went to look in the mailbox and on my door for the pink slip and there's nothing. I hope they didn't try to deliver to the wrong address. And it's strange that there's even no junk mail in my box.

So I'll go tomorrow a.m. and hope it's there and that they'll let me pick it up if so. Hopefully all will be sorted out tomorrow.

I think you can get it with a picture ID if it's at the PO. Can you call your local PO early in the morning? If I call mine before they go out for delivery, they will hold the pkg until I get there when they open at 8:30 am. so I can pick it up.

Oh, dear, I do hope you get everything sorted out tomorrow. It is so frustrating when you wait all day, and then the delivery person comes while you are out. \:\(

awww, MGR, how frustrating! but you sure can get your package without that official pick up notice.

print out the tracking status for your package, where it says they attempted delivery and left a notice. take that and your license to the post and you should be able to pick up your packages.

I try that tomorrow, Poppy, thanks. What do you make of there being no mail whatsoever and no slip anywhere?

When I got home from work today my mailbox was empty which is quite unusual. My husband had gotten a pkg that wouldn't fit in the box so all the mail was left on our front porch w/ the pkg.

Did you look around, do you have a front or back porch you could check?

Oh yes, I checked everywhere! Even had DH look, too. Here's what the tracking message said:

"We attempted to deliver your item at 1:57 PM on September 11, 2009 in -(erased for privacy)- and a notice was left. You may pick up the item at the Post Office indicated on the notice, go to http://www.usps.com/redelivery, or call 800-ASK-USPS to arrange for redelivery. If this item is unclaimed after 15 days then it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later."

Now -- it is insured and has delivery confirmation tracking on it so maybe that's why it went back - because I have to sign for it? That fact that there was no notice left is what concerns me. They usually leave it in the mailbox but we had no mail today either.

Ah well, I just want it to be there tomorrow. I'll definitely call them at 8am to make sure they hold it for me.

I had the same thing happen to me this winter! I printed out the tracking status and went to the P.O. I ended up having to wait for my mailman at the post office to show up at the end of his day to get my package.

I also thought it was very strange that no slips were dropped off.
