I am not sure if this is the right place to post my discussion as I am new. \:\)

I want to get an Asha diamond and I have a few questions. I read that the avg carat size is .5-1ct on an e-ring (natural diamonds) , but the member's rings here look so much bigger. I want a 1.5 - 2ct center stone with asha or natural diamond accents. I live in a middle class area and my fiance and I are very stable financially and live in a great part of town, so it wouldn't be like I was trying to pass off something that was in no way believable. So my question is, does anybody every question if your rings are real? What do you say to that? What is your carat size? Is your ct size believable to the area you live in and what is the avg ct size in your area and among your friends?

I am just trying to figure this debate out. I have a lot of friends who see a girls .5ct e-ring and say oh they must be broke or wow wouldn't marry him but then I have friends who see a big e-ring and say that must be fake or wow he really loves her but shes a gold digger or darn they must owe money on that ring. I really don't want anybody making comments like this when we finally purchase my ring.. Ahh just so confusing!!!

Also, do you think a lot of people have fake e-rings? I see women who do not look like their fiances can afford a ring so big but yet they still have one??

What do you think about a 1.5-2 ct princess cut with side diamonds and 2 diamond wedding bands? If you cant tell, I love bling!!!

Thanks gals, I really love these forums \:\) And you all have such gorgeous rings!!! BTW, check out ringenvy.com, my new addiction \:\)

Hi Eurobride, welcome!! Congrats on your engagement!! \:D

Personally I don't think it depends on the size of your stone that makes people say rude comments... it's the horrible attitudes of the people who are making the comments that make them say rude things! \:\(

I wouldn't worry about what people say, get the ring you love and ignore the rest! Even if you couldn't afford the diamond equivalent no one else would know, only you know what your financial standing is!

I live in downtown Montreal in a pretty rich area, so ladies with super expensive bags and jewelry are pretty common. In fact the other day FH and I were doing groceries and the lady in front of us had the most giant fireball on her finger, it was amazing, almost blinding!!

My FH and I are a young couple (22 and 23) we're both professionals and earn enough to buy a 1-1.25ct stone if I wanted a real diamond. We decided to go with an Asha for a number of reasons. I'm getting a 1.5ct stone and I'm not even slightly worried anyone will say anything or even ask. I've told my close friend and my sister and mom it isn't a real diamond, but the rest if they ask I'll just say we got an awesome deal online. Which is kind of true.. hehe~!

The ring you're envisioning sounds gorgeous! I'm very fond of square shaped cuts... I chose an antique cushion for my ring but will also have accent diamonds on the shank and on my WB~ gotta love that extra sparkle!! <3

Have you picked out a setting or anything yet? \:\)

Welcome to the boards, EuroBride.

"I want a 1.5 - 2ct center stone with asha or natural diamond accents. I live in a middle class area and my fiance and I are very stable financially and live in a great part of town, so it wouldn't be like I was trying to pass off something that was in no way believable."

This is the way to go. If you go with something that fits into your financial lifestyle, then the less questioning you will have. But there will always be someone who questions everything from diamonds to the car you drive so you just have to rock it with an attitude. \:\) You can't live your life worrying about what people think.

"So my question is, does anybody every question if your rings are real?" Never. It's always, "I love your diamond." The asha is so well cut, it looks like the real thing.

"What is your carat size?" 8mm/2ct

"Is your ct size believable to the area you live in?" Definitely. Our neighborhood is primarily composed of professionals, lawyers, execs, engineers, etc.

"What is the avg ct size in your area and among your friends? It really varies. I've seen everything from .5ct - 3+ct. It really depends on whether their financial priorities are their diamonds, cars, watches, vacations, saving for their kids' education, etc.

"I have a lot of friends who see a girls .5ct e-ring and say oh they must be broke or wow wouldn't marry him but then I have friends who see a big e-ring and say that must be fake or wow he really loves her but shes a gold digger or darn they must owe money on that ring." LOL, they have too much time on their hands!

"Also, do you think a lot of people have fake e-rings?" It's not something I think about. If I see a sparkly, I just want to admire the setting, the design and such. Now, if I'm allowed up close to see, I would think I could spot a cz but I don't assume it's fake right off the bat.

"I see women who do not look like their fiances can afford a ring so big but yet they still have one?? You just never know. Some could live frugally and appreciate diamonds. Some could've inherited a stone or money to buy a stone. Now if someone could barely afford to feed and clothe their family and were sporting a huge diamond, I might think twice. In my case, my DH has a very good job and usually, a great annual bonus where we could afford a 2ct or more diamond. But I'd rather put that $ into the kids' college fund or a nice vacation.

"What do you think about a 1.5-2 ct princess cut with side diamonds and 2 diamond wedding bands?" I think it would look great!! We love bling here, too.

hi euro!

i agree w/ kat, people are going to talk no matter what. my engagement ring is a little over 1.5 carats (diamond), which is average to small for my area. a couple years ago at work when i was newly engaged, i heard a young coworker telling another that she thought my ring was fake.

I WAS FURIOUS! i took her aside, and asked why would she say something like that. and she said "well its just so pretty, and youre so young." i told her i was extremely offended, my husband (then fiance) put a lot of hard work and sacrafice into purchasing this ring for me, and her comment was totally uncalled for. she apologized, and she really didn't mean to hurt me.

when i thought about it, what hurt wasnt that she thought it was fake, but it felt like she was devaluing his gift to me. and i take that same attitude about my sims \:\)

"it was a gift, and my husband worked very hard in order give it to me", thats as true as it is for my diamond as it is for my sims.

so get what YOU want- people will always find things to talk about, and you might as well have what you like \:D

You guys are great \:\)

Katertot: I am also around your age, but fh is older \:\) Yes, I have picked out a setting and then another and another. I can NEVER make up my mind!!!!

Heres what I have looked at:

http://www.firenzejewels.com/diamonds/in...nting-000-.html

http://www.ashadiamonds.com/product_ring...-ring-set-p-659

Second choice is obviously cheaper and includes center stone and band, but is not natural diamonds, what do you think? And what do you thing wg v. palladium?

I really like them both. YOu can purchase the AshaDiamond one with natural diamonds if you want. Take a look at the page carefully. There's a section where you can click on natural diamond sidestones! It's highlighted in a bright blue rectangle.

Ok this is how I think:

if it's my one and only or primary wedding set and I could afford it, I'd get good quality diamond sidestones and platinum. Then in order of preference would be 18kt gold, then 14kt gold and palladium last. I really like palladium and own many rings made from that metal, but most jewelers don't work with it. And unless you have a trusted jeweler near by who does who's willing to resize the ring or tighten prongs if needed, etc, I think it's preferable to stick with gold or platinum. Otherwise, you might get stuck mailing the ring off if you need work done on it. I only prefer 18kt over 14kt because that's what's prominent in finer jewelry stores and if you look at designer mountings, it's the primary metal used along with platinum. If you want others to definately think the ring is real, go as high end as possible for the setting materials. \:\)

eurobride, i think if you can afford the carat size in diamonds, there's no reason why you can't wear it in an asha.

i found this for a 7x7mm PC center and 5x5 PC sides:
