Hi all, I am recently engaged..my boyfriend got me a 3.3 ct genuine diamond solitaire. I know I am going to sound mean when I say this, but here goes: the diamond is big, but not the best quality. There are so many flaws in it. It drives me crazy! This is not a certified diamond or anything like that. I called the online jeweler about a return but the timeframe from when he purchased to the time he proposed was too late for a return. I stumbled upon asha/this forum last night and ordered one this morning! I ordered a 3ct old european cut...i like how it looks warmer (hopefully more realistic)
disclaimer: I am not a meanie I know it is the thought that counts and I don't want to hurt his feelings by saying I don't like it
I can't wait to get it here and mounted! I also saw about 10 other things I wanted to buy!

Yes, I am going to just swap it in the current setting. I'm not going to tell him because it would hurt his feelings and he would never know the difference anyhow! He doesn't know anything about jewelry and he is not observant I say that in the nicest way possible lol. The stone is about the same size, so I don't think anyone will know. The problem is I see so many other shapes on here that I like! He would notice if I wore a pear or a cushion (which I like also)

I hear ya, that's what I was getting at, I would do the exact same thing. No hurt feelings happy fiancee and happy you!!!! It would be tough to get away w/ a pear, a cushion hmmmm you may be able to pull that off.

I may be the only one...
However, I think it's wrong and deceitful to swap stones and basically try to pull one over on your fh.
3.3 ct genuine diamond solitaire, no matter the clarity is going to be expensive and he obviously saved and thought of you.
I just think it's not of good character and might be a bad omen to the marriage.
You should let him now how you feel and ask him if he would mind...
Edit: My fh read this thread over and he said that he though he might not know stones or diamonds he would be hurt if he found out later that one lied to him, or just left it out and replaced the stone. A lot of thought goes into this sort of thing and he wants one to be happy so honesty would be best and he would be understanding and not have his feelings hurt.
To lie, or deceive him, about such a topic (anything really) is hurtful and would leave room for mistrust in the future...
