Friday, March 28th:  Working through the weekend to clear out our backlog!: We expect to be back to normal in terms of order turn-around for jewelry items by this coming Monday.  Our workshop has worked through both last weekend, as well as this coming weekend, to help ensure we can continue to offer you a reasonable turn-around time between ordering a ring and receiving it from us!

*EBay and Caveat Emptor ("buyer beware"):  We've continued to have a rash of companies and individuals playing off of the success of our Asha diamond simulant by running auctions on EBay utilizing a variety of misleading methods, including showing photos stolen from our website, terming their product "AshE", claiming to have amorphous diamond, etc.  We have managed to get at least one set of auctions removed earlier this week, but there have been and will continue to be misleading and deceptive auctions being placed on EBay. It is our policy that we do not list Asha on EBay, so while many of these auctions are designed to look as though BTD is auctioning Asha's there, we in fact do not use EBay at all for our Asha diamond simulants.  Please be careful when reviewing any auctions like these, we have no idea what they are in fact selling regardless of how they represent it.

Friday, March 21st:  3-stone oval Takara ring available!: We do have one new ring we can offer currently, since this one has already been completed earlier by our workshop and is a custom ring (one only).  This is a 3-stone oval diamond ring, custom created to house our 1.06ct Fancy Vivid Yellow-Orange Takara synthetic oval diamond, using pure platinum and 14k yellow gold.  The sides are a perfectly cut, perfectly matched pair of natural white diamond ovals, .83ctw, F/VS2.  This is the one and only Takara yellow oval that we have cut or intend to cut, so there is one-only of this ring available.  More details are at our 3-stone oval ring page here!

Thursday, March 20th:  1.05ct Radiant Sold Out, No more will be manufactured: We've sold our last 1.05ct radiant, and as per our previously announced intention of discontinuing the radiant cut, we will not be producing anymore.  We still have some of the larger size Radiants available, our Radiant Asha page is here!

*Our workshop is severely backlogged:  We are now facing the biggest backlog we've ever had at our workshop, and have also had one of our workshop staff out sick most of this week.  We will be working through the weekend to try and get caught up with the backlog, but please be patient as we are not going to rush rings out only to have them sent back to due to quality of workmanship issues (as the saying goes, "There's never time to do it right the first time, but always time to do it over :-).  Accordingly, we will also be holding off on showing new ring designs on the site, as we have no capacity to handle additional orders at this point.  We'll hope to have this corrected and new rings shown next week.

Monday, March 17th:
1.5ct Flanders now out of stock:  Sales of Asha have continued to exceed our estimates and so unfortunately, we are temporarily out of stock now on the 1.5ct Flanders.

*We will now warranty Asha simulants even when set by another jeweler:  It's also become obvious that given the rate of loose stone sales, and the fact that our workshops backlog continues to grow, that it would be impossible for us to do all the setting work for all loose Asha's.  Thus, effective immediately, we will allow all Asha customers to have their Asha set by the jeweler of their choosing, and will continue to warranty the Asha as if we had done the setting ourselves.  We've posted the jewelers setting guide to Asha under the "Asha Diamond simulant" menu item above, or you may simply click here to view the jewelers setting guide.  It may be helpful to bring a printed copy of this to your jeweler before they work on it in case they have any questions.

The biggest problems we have seen with other jewelers setting it is they often forget that its not natural diamond, and then either torch the stone, or polish it the way you could a diamond.  Both of these end in bad scenarios, and that had been part of the reason we didn't want other jewelers setting the Asha.  Please be careful with whom you pick to do your setting work - we've had some customers tell us their jewelers refused to set anything but natural diamond in platinum, for example, and if that is their attitude, then you should take your business elsewhere.

This change is effective on all loose Asha's, so if you purchased an Asha last year from us for example, you are still covered by this policy change, and you do not need to get an updated paper warranty from us.

We hope this helps our customers work with the jeweler of their choosing - again, the bench jewelers guide page is here!

*New rings for Spring:  We will be adding a number of new rings to our website in the next few weeks, some of which are being produced by other ring manufacturers such as Golden Sands, and accordingly, we are also going to discontinue a number of our rings that have not sold as well as our top sellers.  Rings such as the Illustrious, Cartier Reproduction, Renaissance, Cathedral and bands such as our Regalia and Timeless Wedding Band will be around for a long time, but others such as the Asscher trellis will be discontinued.  A full listing of those rings marked for discontinuation is available on our Ring Index page here!

Wednesday, March 12th:
Asha 1ct princess back in stock: We managed to complete a batch of 1ct princess cuts today and so are pleased to announce one of our best selling cuts is now back in stock!  Our Asha princess page is here!

*Natural Pink Sapphire page now added:  We've added our natural pink sapphire page to our menu system above, and are pleased to make our first natural pink sapphire (1.62ct oval) available for purchase at our new pink sapphire page here!

3 Natural pink (purple-pink) sapphire, brilliant cut oval, 1.62ct (8x6mm), $525

*3 stone pendant page added to our menu system:  We received a
number of emails noting that while we had announced our 3 stone (Asha and
Superbcert Diamond) pendants, we never added it to our menu system (and
we wondered why they weren't selling....).  Thanks to those that emailed to
point out our mistake, it has been corrected, and is now available under our
jewelry menu above, or you can simply click here!

*Our best selling band is now the Timeless Wedding Band!:  We've been very pleased with the rapid sales growth of our Timeless wedding band, which has now usurped our Illustrious wedding band for the top selling spot for our bands.  The Timeless Wedding band is a tiffany-style, common-prong all diamond band featuring 180 degrees of F/G, VS quality diamonds (11x 2.5mm, .66ctw) - our Timeless Wedding Band page is here!

6 Our new best-seller for wedding
bands, the Timeless Wedding Band.

Tuesday, March 11th:  Asha 2ct rounds back in stock: We managed to complete a batch of rounds earlier today, and after completing the backorders, have an extra 12 in inventory, now available.  Our Asha H&A round page is here!

.23ct Blue Takara synthetic diamond (silver-blue)

*Lots of new updates coming over the next week:  We've been extremely busy but will have a number of new exciting updates coming out over the next week.  These include several new rings, pendants, pink natural sapphires, and last but not least, our first blue Takara synthetic diamond.  To thank you for your patience as we prepare these various items, here are two quick pictures - however, please do not email to inquire about these products, we'll have a complete update with online shopping and all the details over the next few days.

Wednesday, March 5th:  Several Asha cuts sold out now: Our sales growth is climbing faster than anticipated, and we have now sold out of 1.5ct Flanders, and 2ct Princess Asha.  We will be making more, but they probably will not be ready until April.  The inventory status has been updated on the appropriate pages.

*2ct Flanders Asha back in stock:  On the good news, we have completed another batch of 2ct Flanders, and after filling backorders, we have 21 now available.

*Ring turn around time will be expanded to 10-15 business days:  Based on our increasing sales volumes and growing backlog, we are going to have to expand the turn-around time for when a ring is ordered, to when it is shipped, to be 10-15 business days (2-3weeks) on average.  We understand that customers want to have their ring yesterday after they place an order, but rushing the work and not doing it right does neither of us any good.  We currently have two diamond-setters, and are looking to hire one more to help keep up with our orders.  If we can expand our resources sufficiently, then in the future we may be able to go back to our previous turn-around of 7-10 business days, but for now and the foreseeable future, it will be our policy to have at least 10-15 business days before your ring is shipped after placing an order.

*Order Status software will be coming next week:  With the increased time required between placing an order and receiving it, we realize a lot of people will be emailing with "what's the status of my order" (though, being perfectly blunt, these requests generally impede progress on your ring, because we then have to interrupt one of our goldsmiths during their work to get an update).  We are in the middle of implementing a new software system, similar to Amazon.com, where you can visit our website and enter your order id and zip code, and get an update of where your order is (parts being pulled, sizing, setting, shipping, etc).  We hope to unveil this towards the end of next week, and hope that will help with your patience while waiting on your order.

Tuesday, March 4th:  Renaissance Engagement ring pages re-done to allow you to customize the prongs and center stone: Our Renaissance engagement ring, a very consistent seller, has been revised to allow you to select any cut center stone.  We have mounted everything from rounds to princess to pears on this ring, and all looked very elegant....so we decided it was time to ensure customers could readily choose for themselves what cut center stone to add.  However, in pricing all the items separately (ring shank, prongs, center stone) we found that we were selling the engagement ring portion (shank and diamonds) at or slightly below our current cost to produce, in part due to the rising price of precious metals this past year.  Thus, we will be raising prices after March 15th on the ring shank portion, to ensure profitability on the ring shank.   Our Renaissance page is here!

*"Asha" has officially become a registered mark!:  Our lawyers informed us today that "Asha" has now passed all of the legal requirements as a trademark, and we will receive a certificate of registration next month from the US Patent and Trademark office that Asha has become a legally registered mark.  Thus, once we have the certificate, we'll switch over from using the Asha marker to the cooler, and legally more substantial, Asha.

Monday, March 3rd:  Illustrious Engagement ring pages re-done to allow you to customize the prongs and center stone: Our Illustrious Engagement ring has become very popular lately, so we've revised the web pages for it to allow you to simply order the ring shank, and then order the prongs and center stone you want.  With this revision, you'll see that our Tiffany Channel Set ring and Illustrious ring have merged - they both use the same shank, but the Tiffany Channel set allowed one button shopping for those wishing to purchase a round.  With the new customizable format, you can select the prong style and the center stone of your choosing.
Our Illustrious page is here!

*Continued growth in our website's traffic: Web-visits to our site have continued to increase every month, and we are constantly monitoring the traffic to ensure that we add additional hardware as needed to ensure a crisp browsing experience at our site.  Below, we show the growth in monthly unique visitors over the past 16 months:

Friday, February 28th, PM:  "MeToo" is our winner for our ultrasonic giveaway!: We're pleased to announce that the user "MeToo" is the winner of our ultrasonic give-away for registered users that have posted on our message boards during February.  We've already sent an email to them to inform them that they have won, and we'll be shipping their ultrasonic cleaner next week.  This contest was designed to thank those who have provided us with a lot of valuable feedback via our message boards, so thanks to all our message board participants, and congratulations to MeToo!

*Feedback from a new customer on our Asha H&A three stone-ring!:  Our thanks go out to another customer who recently wrote us after receiving a three-stone Asha ring as an anniversary gift.  Thanks very much to this customer - we appreciate them taking the time to write, as well as for letting us reprint an excerpt of their email!

"I am a new and very proud owner of your 3 stone anniversary ring. My husband purchased it for me for Valentine's Day as well as a celebration of our 10 year anniversary. I currently have a beautiful 1.7 carat princess F color stone and I have to say that your stones are every bit as beautiful and every bit as brilliant. Thinking what we spent on my engagement ring set almost makes one sick. I wish we would have known about your company 12 years ago, it could have saved us a lot.. Well thank you once again...I hope that this is the first of many purchases that my hubby makes from your company."

Thursday, February 27th, PM:  Our menu system has been updated based on your feedback!: We've modified our website menu system, so that now the menu's will only drop after you have clicked on them.  Prior to, the menu would show when you put your cursor over it, which many users did not like.  So, we've updated it to drop only when clicked - we hope this helps improve your web browsing experience on our site!

*Natural pink sapphires coming next week:  We'll be showing a few natural pink sapphires on our site next week, and if they are well received, will make them a part of our normal inventory.  These sapphires are coming from a trusted sapphire dealer that we have done business with for many years.  According to them, while they have lab-created pink sapphires, the naturals still outdo the lab ones in beauty and thus they recommended we offer these as they not too expensive (approximately $300 per carat, but varies stone to stone since they are natural and not manufactured).  We'll have a pink brilliant cut oval, a matched pair of pink sapphire trillions, and perhaps a few rounds to show next week.

*Ultrasonic cleaner give-away happens tomorrow!  We'll be doing our drawing to give-away one of our Branson ultrasonic cleaners.  If you are interested in being eligible for the give-away, ensure you are a registered user on our message boards, and have made at least one posting before tomorrow, 11AM PST.  We'll announce the winner tomorrow, right here on our latest news page!  Our message boards are here!

Thursday, February 27th:  1.00ctw natural diamond studs now added to our Mothers Day special!: We've received a lot of requests to offer larger size natural diamond stud earrings, and we're pleased to add 1.00ctw (.50ct x 2) natural diamond stud earrings to our Mothers Day special.  Using diamonds from our same cutters, these are G color, VS1-VS2 clarity, well-cut, all-natural diamonds in our top quality, 4 prong platinum diamond stud earrings with our ultra-comfortable, ultra-secure La Poussette clutch backs.  These are available for $2797 until May 7th.  Our natural diamond stud earrings page is here!

*New user poll - tell us what products you want to see!: We've added a new poll to our website, designed to let you tell us where we should focus our resources going forward.  We've got a complete list of products we're thinking about offering, but need your feedback to tell us what you most want to see and purchase.  These range from sterling silver jewelry items (Tiffany's style) to more Asha cuts (i.e. marquise, oval) to simply more engagement settings.  Our user poll is here!

Wednesday, February 26th:  Please welcome our newest employee, Yumiko: We're pleased to announce that we will have another staff member joining us starting this coming Monday.  Yumiko is joining us from Microsoft, and will be assisting us in website improvements as well as localizing our website into Japanese.

*Flanders Asha 2cts out of stock!: We've sold out of 2ct Asha Flanders.  We'll be making more shortly, and hope to have these and our other out of stock sizes (our 2ct rounds and 1ct princess Asha) replenished by mid-March.

*Asscher Asha 5.5cts sold out!  We've also sold out of our 5.5cts Asha Asschers.  We are not planning on producing any more Asha's over 3ct in size, so these will not be offered again going forward (we want to focus on those sizes that sell in volume).

*Asha H&A round feedback from a new customer!: We're pleased to be able to share an excerpt of a nice email we recently received from a new customer.  Thanks to this customer for taking the time to write and for allowing us to reprint their feedback!

"...It took me until February to actually purchase my Hearts and Arrow Round 2 Ct Asha. Okay...you have made me a true believer!!!
After receiving my ring I was stunned at how beautiful it was! Your pictures on the website do not do the Asha justice. It has so much fire
and sparkle. It is a spectacular stone! I am only upset that it took me soooo long to come around."

Monday, February 24th:  BTD.com in the
movies!:
We're pleased to announce that we
have a video trailer from the upcoming movie
"Beyond Recognition", which will be released
in April.  We supplied one of our Aldora Premiere
rings for use in the film (with center Takara
synthetic diamond), and are pleased to be able
to share the movie trailer with you.

*Natural Diamond Jewelry section coming!: We're currently working on several new rings that will be using either natural diamonds or natural diamonds and Takara Synthetics. Additionally, we've had a lot of customers asking to use our settings to mount their natural diamond center stones - thus, we'll be expanding the options below our Natural Diamonds menu item to include all of our settings in semi-mount pricing (i.e. the rings with side diamonds, but no center stone).  Additionally, we're now offering our Mothers Day Special for .50ctw natural diamond stud earrings, and these have been added under the "Natural Diamonds" menu.

*Asha Emerald Feedback from a new customer!: We were thrilled to receive one of the nicest feedback emails we've ever received, and are even happier to have permission to share it.  A huge thanks to this customer for taking the time to write us - we greatly appreciate it!

My Husband and I would like to express our gratitude for your company and product. We have been researching, shopping for, and reading about Emerald cut diamonds for some time which is why we decided to give BetterThanDiamond, Inc. a try.  As you know, a 2.10 excellent quality Emerald would have cost us upwards of over $23,000.  We only wanted the best and decided not to settle for anything less.  We had resolved ourselves to the fact we could not have what we truly wanted because of the price range of what our "dream" diamond was.  Then, we had the great fortune of happening upon your website while browsing. My husband I are now the proud owners of an absolutely exquisite 2.10 ct Emerald cut Asha Diamond and we owe that to you.   We have spent hours studying the stone actually *trying* to find something wrong with it or evidence that it is a simulant.  Today is a cold, winter day in Indiana, but the sun is extremely bright .  I have held the stone in direct sunlight and am amazed at the range of brilliant, rainbow-spectrum colors it produces.  This is evidence of a well-cut emerald.  The symmetry is exceptional as well, which is of paramount importance to us. It was crucial to my Husband and I that this stone look as natural and perfect as an actual diamond.  We were very skeptical before receiving your product as we are card-carrying, flag-waving, die-hard diamond lovers and like to fancy ourselves to be somewhat "amateur connoisseurs".   Now that we have received the Asha Emerald cut stone, we know that there is absolutely no way anyone will ever be able to tell this is not a genuine diamond.  We will be successful in "passing it off" as a natural diamond and that simply amazes and pleases us to no end. We cannot adequately convey our gratitude in words, but hope this email will suffice.  Your company and product are simply outstanding and have offered this modest-salary Midwest couple, who happen to adore diamonds, the opportunity to be something special in a "sea of ordinary"

Thursday, February 20th - .50ctw Platinum Diamond Stud Earrings - Mothers Day special!: We have mentioned earlier that as our business has grown in terms of Asha sales, so has our natural diamond purchasing power dramatically increased (somewhat ironically).  The reason is that we use natural side diamonds for our Asha rings, at an average of 10 natural diamonds for every Asha ring.

For example, every Cartier reproduction ring we sell uses 10 x 1.7mm natural diamonds, and we have sold a lot of Cartier reproduction rings....so while we are primarily a simulant manufacturer, because of our sales volumes for our rings we are now buying 10ct parcels of diamonds at a time from our natural diamond cutters, which puts our buying power at that of a natural diamond wholesaler.

As a result, and in keeping with our focus on offering our customers the best diamond bang for their buck, we have had a long meeting with our diamond manufacturers tonight and are pleased to announce the following natural diamond special, valid until Mothers Day (Sunday, May 12):

Mothers Day Diamond Stud Earring Special:

  • .50ct total weight, (.25ct, 4mm x 2) Natural well-cut round diamonds of G color, and VS clarity
  • Set in platinum 4 prong studs, with La Pousette backs
  • As always, Fedex 2nd day shipping and solid cherry-wood presentation box included.
  • Price = $690

You'll find lower quality diamonds (usually H-I color, SI - I1 clarity) of equivalent weight, set in screw back for $900 + shipping at other internet retailers, and even higher prices if you shop retail.

This Mothers Day offer is a volume play, made possible by our volume purchasing power and the fact we sell directly to you, pure and simple. If it results in enough sales, we'll continue it as a permanent offer, but for now, this offer expires on Wednesday, May 7th (the last day we could ship earrings in time for Mothers Day).  We just decided on this program tonight, so we don't have photos yet, but will have them shortly.  We've set up a webpage for our Mothers Day special here, and we'll accept orders as of now (photos will be this weekend, weather permitting).

Wednesday, February 19th - Asha Trillions now
available:
We have received a significant amount of
requests to start offering our Asha trillions for sale
as loose stones....and thus, we are pleased to
announce their availability.  These were produced
with the intention of being used exclusively in our own
rings, and not to sell as loose Asha, but with the
number of emails about it is clear that we should offer
them loose for customer to purchase for use in their
own jewelry. We will offer them at introductory pricing
of $150/ct, and are offering 5.5mm and 6mm matched
pairs. Details are on our new Asha Trillions page here.

*Cartier wedding bands using diamonds and rubies or sapphire now
available:
We have also had requests to offer our matched Cartier reproduction wedding bands with the option of using alternating diamonds and natural rubies or natural sapphires, and are pleased to have that now
available via our online shopping cart. Our Cartier Wedding Set page is here!

Tuesday, February 18th - Photos of Cartier reproduction with a Flanders Asha and side sapphires: We were able to get in a very short photo shoot today before the rain returned, and wanted to show the photos of two additional options for the Cartier reproduction ring - that of using a Flanders Asha for the center stone, and the option of using side sapphires alternating with diamond.  Our Cartier reproduction page is here!

*Nice Princess Asha feedback from a new customer:  We're happy to be able to share an excerpt from an email from a new customer, who wrote us to share their feedback on their new Princess Asha ring.  As always, we want to say thanks very much to this customer for taking the time to write, and for letting us reprint their feedback on our website!

"I just received the ring on Friday, I am very very impressed! I now believe the customer's reply back on these diamond simulants on the website. They are simply gorgeous! For those of you out there looking and thinking as I did a few weeks ago. Look no further.  I am completely sold. Now my fiance is so happy with the ring and the size and cutting of the stone."

*Sold out of 2ct H&A round Asha:  We've had a big increase in demand for 2ct rounds, and have sold out as of today.  We hope to have more available by the end of the middle of March.

Monday, February 17th - New option to save money ($22) on loose Asha purchasesWe're pleased to announce that we have added the option to our online shopping to allow you to specify what type of packaging you wish your loose Asha purchases to come in.  By default, we have been packaging them in our very beautiful Silkwood ring/gem boxes...however, while this is ideal for presenting it as a gift, we realize that customers that are purchasing for themselves might prefer to save some money and forego the Silkwood box.

Hence, on all loose Asha purchases, you may now select the packaging of your choice: Silkwood box, included in our current Asha pricing, or Diamond Paper and save $22 on your purchase.

*First ever Ultrasonic giveaway for our message board members!:  We've been able to garner lots of feedback, criticism and ideas on how to improve our offerings via customers who post on our message boards over the last year.  As our way of saying thanks, we will be giving away one of our Branson Ultrasonic cleaners to a registered message board member that has posted during the month of February, on Friday February 28th.  We realize that many (most in fact) people simply post without registering (as 'anonymous') which is fine, but this give-away can only be done for registered members (as anonymous is just that, anonymous, so we have no way to contact you if you win).

Thus, if you wish to participate in our giveaway, ensure you are a registered member on our message boards, and have at least one post under your registered name during the month of February.  Employees, vendors or relatives of BTD.com are not eligible, if the winner is an international customer, they will receive the international version of our ultrasonic cleaner.  Odds of winning are currently 1 in 125 (as we have 125 registered users).  Selection is by random number generation (using the website www.random.org), with the random number being matched to the users registered id, and finally confirming the selected user has made at least one post during the month of February.  The winner will be contacted by their registered email address.  Results will be announced on Friday, February 28th!

*Nice Pear Asha feedback from a new customer:  We're pleased to be able to share part of a recent email from a new customer, who wrote us to share their (humorous) story of receiving their ring.  As always, we really appreciate customer feedback, and thanks very much to this customer for taking the time to write and share their experience!

"I just got home and my husband was holding my ring and said "We have a problem..(my heart sank)..you need to call them because they sent you a real diamond, this is no CZ"...It's just beautiful!!! I could not be happier..:) Thank-you so very much!!"

Friday, February 14th - Happy Valentines Day!:  We're hiring another customer service managerWe've been continuing to experience very strong sales growth and that is beginning to overwhelm our office, so we have hired a temporary office assistant, and are interviewing for another customer service manager to help us ensure we continue to provide you with top notch customer service.

*Stuller 4 prong Solstice ring will be available shortly:  We've received a lot of requests to start carrying this ring, and we have two models set and ready for photos...as soon as we get some sunshine, we'll have these photographed and available for purchase on our website.

*Cartier Reproduction Princess and Round heads:  Darryl has finished carving these for the 1ct sizes, and Peter is working on creating the molds.  We hope to have these available in two weeks.

*Nice Asha Asscher feedback from a new customer:  We're pleased to be able to reprint an excerpt from a new customer, who wrote us after receiving their ring.  As always, we greatly appreciate customer feedback, and thanks very much to this customer for taking the time to write, and for letting us share their feedback!

"Thank you so much, the ring is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! The Asscher stone is STUNNING. I was worried it wouldnt be sparkly enough, but it is just perfect and so brilliant. My husband and I both admired it for at least an hour after receiving it. The beveled Tiffany solitaire setting is gorgeous and such excellent quality and the low-profile setting is just what we envisioned. You have made a believer out of both of us!!"

Friday, February 7th:  New article on our colored diamonds by Kathy Taylor, G.G!:  Diamonds come in a rainbow of colors, and since we are currently working on producing blue colored Takara synthetics, Kathy has written a very detailed article discussing what causes natural diamonds, and our Takara synthetics, to show different color hues such as blue and yellow.  The full article is here, but here is a very quick preview:

ROSES ARE RED, DIAMONDS ARE BLUE AND GREENAND YELLOW..

 By  Kathleen Taylor G.G.

The mesmerizing blue of the Hope Diamond; the captivating allure of the Tiffany Yellow; the unique distinction of the Dresden Green; the inky depths of the Black Orloff.  These are just a few of the famous, fancy colored diamonds whose very names inspire thoughts of intrigue and romance.  Royalty, socialites and movie stars, among other powerful people throughout history, have used diamonds as visible proofs of their importance and wealth - both to themselves and to others.  The fact that a remarkably-sized diamond has a distinct hue adds to its uniqueness.  But, what exactly gives gem diamonds their variety in coloration?  Is it possible to alter the hue of natural diamonds from their mined appearance to become visually more appealing?  Can we reproduce this effect in synthetic diamonds?  Many people are unaware that diamonds exist in a multitude of colors.  To them, colorless personifies what all diamonds are supposed to look like.  But to truly appreciate the value of any diamond, especially a diamond with a fancy designation, an understanding of the colors cause and origin is important.
 This article continues....click here.

*Nice Asha feedback from a recent customer:  We're pleased to be able to share an excerpt from a recent customers email about their Asha purchase.  Thanks very much to this customer for sharing their feedback, and for letting us reprint!

"I received my ring today. I couldn't be more pleased with my new Asha diamond simulant! It's absolutely stunning! The brilliance of the stone is positively mesmerizing. I can't stop staring at my ring. I honestly can not tell the difference between my real diamonds and my Asha. Actually, the Asha diamond simulant looks far BETTER than my real diamonds!!! It definitely exceeded all my expectations!!! I can say without hesitation, I WILL be a repeat customer. Thank you so very much!!!!"

Thursday, February 6th:  Our line of rings will now be carried by DiamondOptics.com!:  DiamondOptics.com is a natural diamond dealer focusing exclusively on SuperbCert diamonds.  They will be using our line of settings to set their customers natural diamond purchases into - consequently, we will be modifying all our rings online shopping options to ensure they are available without a center stone for their customers.  Every once in a while, we get new customers who ask if our settings are good enough to use for high-end natural diamonds, and the answer is an absolute yes - many customers have already set high-end natural diamonds into our settings, and we expect more will be doing so with the addition of DiamondOptics.com using our settings for their diamonds.  You can visit the DiamondOptics.com website here!.

*Helen of Troy will be re-designed and re-launched late March:  We have temporarily taken the Helen of Troy ring off of the site, as we have decided to make a few changes to its design.  We'll be re-launching it in late March with its new improvements!

Monday, February 3rd, PM update:  Economies of Scale and Flanders Asha!: After reviewing our financial data from last year, we found that our best month ever for sales was last April, driven by the Flanders Asha being at intro pricing for that month.  With some additional research, we are pleased to announce that we will be testing our economy of scale program by reverting the Flanders Asha to intro pricing from now until April 1, 2003.  Assuming we are able to get sufficient volume as a result, we expect to make the intro pricing for the Flanders permanent, in similar fashion to the experience with the Asha Asscher.

Thus, as of today, Flanders Asha will be priced at $175/ct until April 1st.  Further, all customers who purchased the Flanders Asha from 01/01/2003 have already been credited the difference between normal pricing and the intro pricing (we have directly emailed those customers to notify them of the credit being placed on their card.) Our Flanders Asha page is here!

3 Our Flanders Asha showing its brilliance!
The Flanders has one of the best white light scores of any of our Asha cuts.

To answer a common question, the Flanders cut may be mounted like a princess using our Asscher Cartier head, and thus can be used for our best-selling Cartier reproduction ring.

*Website traffic on the rise:  Just an aside, we are pleased to announce we set a new record last Friday with over 2,500 visits to our website for Friday alone.  We have a very extensive traffic monitoring system in place, and we'll continue to monitor our server daily.  Further, as the need arises, we will certainly continue to add more hardware to ensure all visitors have a prompt and crisp browsing experience at our site.  Our website is currently sending out over 6 Gigabytes of data per month to keep up with the web traffic!

Monday, February 3rd:  BTD's 2002 Annual report to our Customers: We received all of our year end financial summaries from our accountants last Friday.  While we are not a public company, our customers (current and potential) are in effect our shareholders, so we thought it would be helpful to provide you with an overview of our results, both financially and otherwise.

2002 Highlights:

  • Sales revenue increased over 400% as compared to 2001
  • Net profitable for the year, net profitable in 9 of 12 months (vs. net profitable in only 6 of 12 months for 2001).
  • Web-site traffic increased over 320% for the year, website moved to fully dedicated web-server to handle increased traffic.
  • Asha version 4 (Amorphous) was introduced in Jan.02, and Asha officially became patent-pending
  • Takara lab-grown diamonds introduced
  • Moved into larger Bellevue office space (three blocks from Microsoft main campus)
  • Received Better Business Bureau's Honor Roll award for customer satisfaction

For 2003, we are continuing to focus on our 'efficiencies of scale' mantra, meaning we will continue to cut products that are not selling in larger volume.  This will allow us to free up cash flow (rather than having capital tied up in extra inventory) as well as help us to continue to offer you, our customers, better pricing as we gain increased purchasing power over our raw materials by doing larger volume.

The primary goal in 2003 will be to achieve another 100% in total sales revenue for the year (Jan 03 sales are up over 100% vs. Jan. 02), and ideally, finally having a full year of every month being net profitable.  Last years 3 unprofitable months were directly correlated to large expenditures related to the amorphous coating program, and expenses related to the start-up of the Takara's.

Finally, there is a reason the 400% sales increase, the 320% web-site traffic growth and customer satisfaction are specifically bolded above.  It is to ensure that you know, that we know, that the reason for those sales increases are directly as a result of customer satisfaction.  Thus, to achieve our sales goals for the year, we will be working hard to continue to offer you better customer service, and an expansion of offerings that your feedback (primarily via our message boards) has indicated you want!  We appreciate your continued trust in choosing us for your jewelry needs, and look forward to your continued feedback as to what we are doing right, and where we can improve.

*1 Gigabyte of RAM memory added to our dedicated web-server!: As part of our efforts to make your browsing and shopping experience better, we recently added another 1 GB of Ram to our web-server to help ensure our server is always able to promptly handle your visits to our site.  We are also happy to mention that web traffic to our site is up another 30% as compared to 3 months ago, hence why we have been upgrading our dedicated web server.  By dedicated, we mean there is a full, single computer that does nothing but handle our website....unlike shared web-servers where as many as 250 other websites can reside (and pages can take forever to click to), ours is completely dedicated to us and does nothing but handle the BTD website, to ensure you have a crisp browsing experience through our web pages.
